The UNC Women's Golf Team Hosts The Tar Heel Invitational

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The University of North Carolina women's golf team will play host to the 33rd annual Tar Heel Invitational October 3-5 at UNC Finley Golf Course, which features a par 72, 6,285-yard layout. Tee times begin at 9 a.m. Friday and Saturday with teams starting off both the #1 and #10 tees. There will be a shotgun start at 9:15 a.m. on Sunday. The public is invited to attend and there is no admission fee.

The field of 18 teams includes 10 which are ranked in the top 25 in the latest Golfweek/Sagarin rankings. In addition to host North Carolina which is ranked 12th, the field includes Tulsa (#4), Vanderbilt (#6), Virginia (#8), Auburn (#13), Florida State (#14), South Carolina (#19), Kent State (#20), Michigan State (#21), Wake Forest(#22), Louisville (#26), Furman (#33), Texas A&M (#36), NC State (#40), Central Florida (#42), Kentucky, UNCG and Ohio State.

"We are excited about the Tar Heel," says North Carolina head coach Sally Austin. "Once again, we have a terrific field of teams. Finley is in fantastic condition. It is a great opportunity for us to compete against some of the best teams in the country, on one of the best college courses in the country. We are going to enjoy playing at home."

Carolina has played in one tournament so far this fall. The Tar Heels finished third at the Cougar Classic played Sept. 14-16 in Hanahan, S.C. Two Tar Heels, Sydney Crane and Allie White, tied for fourth place in the individual race firing five-under-par 211 totals. Crane, a senior from Jamestown, N.C., carded rounds of 71-71-69 while White, a freshman from Lancaster, Ohio, posted rounds of 72-70-69. Freshman Catherine O'Donnell, from Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., tied for 28th place with a 221 total while Kate Thomas, a junior from Murwillumbah, Australia, carded a 229 to tie for 59th place and Lauren Hunt, a senior from Little River, S.C., shot 232 and tied for 74th.
