UNC Women Golfers Finish In 11th Place At Lady Paladin

Greenville, S.C. -- Top-ranked Auburn University held on to win the Lady Paladin Invitational in Furman, South Carolina with a third round score of 294 giving the Tigers an overall total of 893. Wake Forest finished four strokes off the pace with a three-day total of 893. Rounding out the top five was Lousiana State, the University of Florida , and Vanderbilt University. Top individual honors went to the reigning U.S. Amateur Champion Meridith Duncan of LSU who shot a final round of one-over-par 73 for a tournament total of 216. North Carolina finished the Lady Paladin in 11th place. The Tar Heels were led in individual scoring by seniors Beth Lever and Shelley McKevitt who finished with overall scores of 229 and 230, respectively. Junior Abby Spector finished the event tied for 67th while Sophomore Ashley Prange and Junior Meghan Adams completed the tournament tied for 86th. The University of North Carolina women golfers will next compete in the SunTrust Lady Gator Invitational in Gainsville, Florida, February 22-24, 2002.
