Tar Heel Women Golfers Finish Fourth At Furman Invitational

GREENVILLE, S.C.-- North Carolina's women's golf team finished in fourth place with a 32-over-par 896 after shooting a final-round team score of one-over-par 289 at the Lady Paladin Invitational at Furman University. The Tar Heels finished 19 shots back of tournament winner Auburn, whose total team score of 13-over-par 877 bested second place South Carolina's 884 by seven shots. Tournament host Furman finished in third place with a final team score of 894, while Vanderbilt rounded out the top five with a 36-over-par 900. UNC's Ashley Prange fired a tournament-low six-under-par 66 to finish tied for seventh place at four-over-par 220. Heather Angell finished tied for fifteenth place with a final round six-over-par 222, while Abby Spector ended the weekend tied with four other golfers, including fellow Tar Heel Shelly McKevitt, for 35th place with a 12-over-par 228. Beth Lever rounded out the Tar Heels finishing tied for 57th place at 20-over-par 236.
Auburn's Celeste Troche took the individual title after a three-day-score of six-under-par 210. Kristy McPherson of South Carolina finished four shots back at two-under-par 214, while Brittany Straza finished in third place at even-par 216. Vanderbilt's Nicki Cutler took fourth place after a one-over-par 217, while Meaghan Francella of Memphis and Nuria Clau of Wake Forest tied for fifth place at three-over-par 219. The tournament was held at the Furman Golf Course, which is a par 72 course comprised of 5, 917 yards.
