Carolina Golfers Tied For Fourth At Duramed Cougar Classic

HANAHAN, S.C. -

The North Carolina women's golf team fired rounds of 288-290 for a two-over-par 578 total and is in fourth place going into the final round of the Duramed Cougar Classic. The Tar Heels were led by sophomore Catherine O'Donnell who posted a three-under 141 after two rounds.

O'Donnell, from Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., is tied for fifth place going into Monday's final round after firing rounds of three-under 69 and even par 72 on Sunday. Two other Tar Heels are in the top-20 as senior Kate Thomas is tied for 12th place and junior Margaret Pentrack is tied for 17th place. Thomas, from Murwillumbah, Australia, fired rounds of 71-72 for a one-under 143 total while Pentrack, from Pittsburgh, Pa., shot 75-70 for a one-over 145 total. Sarah Thead, a junior from Poway, Calif., carded a five-over 149 total after rounds of 73-76 and is tied for 39th place while Courtney Gunter, a freshman from Matthews, N.C., shot a pair of 78s for a 156 total and is tied for 74th.

Georgia leads the 18-team field with a 13-under-par 563 total. The Bulldogs fired rounds of 280-283 on Sunday. Florida State and Furman are tied for second place with 575 totals, three strokes ahead of the Tar Heels' 578. Vanderbilt is fifth at 579 while Tennessee and Wisconsin are tied for sixth place at 583.

Lacey Agnew of Florida State, who set a Cougar Classic record for lowest round with a 65 in the second round, leads all individuals at eight-under 136. Marta Silva Zamora of Georgia is two strokes back in second place at 138 while Stefanie Kenoyer of Furman is third at 139 and Brooke Goodwin of Vanderbilt is fourth at 140. A trio of players is tied for fifth place with 141 totals - Carolina's O'Donnell, Furman's Jackie Hilea and Georgia's Milena Savich.

 

 

The final round of the 54-hole event will be played Monday at Yeamans Hall which features a par 72, 6,211-yard layout.
