Browns Summit, NC - North Carolina's women's golf team rests in ninth place with a 312 total after the first round of the Bryan National Collegiate. The Tar Heels were led by freshman Ashley Prange, >from Noblesville, Ind., who fired a three-over-par 75 and is tied for 13th place individually.

Duke University leads the field of 17 teams with a 289 total. Wake Forest and Oklahoma St. are tied for second place at 294 while South Carolina and Furman round out the top five with scores of 303 and 305 respectively.

Tar Heel junior Shelly McKevitt fired a 78 and is tied for 34th place while teammate Abby Spector finished one stroke back with a 79 and a sits in a tie for 47th. Tar Heel teammates Beth Lever and Heather Angell each finished tied for 52nd after carding a first round score of 80.

The individual lead is held by Oklahoma State's Linda Wessberg who fired a three-under 69. Wessberg holds a two shot lead over a trio of players who carded first round scores of 71. These players include NC Greensboro's Jessica Fought, South Carolina's Kacy Thompson, and Duke's Kalen Anderson.

The 54-hole event continues through Sunday and is being played at the Bryan Park Champions Golf Course which features a par 72, 6,074-yard layout.
