Carolina Women's Golfers Finish Ninth at Bryan National Collegiate

BROWN SUMMIT, N.C. -- The North Carolina women's golf team carded a 28-over-par 316 in the final round of the Bryan National Collegiate on Sunday, allowing them to maintain their ninth place standing and finish with a 930 total. North Carolina junior Sydney Crane gained momentum in the final round, firing a three-over-par 75. Crane's final total of 224 tied her for fifth place. Having fired a nineteen-over-par 307 in the final round, the Florida Gators surpassed No. 1 Duke by two strokes to capture the team title with a 906 total. Sophomore Kate Thomas, from Murwillumbah, Australia, improved her second round score by two strokes for a seven-over-par 79, giving her a final total of 234 to tie for 37th. Lauren Hunt, a junior from Little River, S.C., tied for 45th with a 235 total after carding a ten-over-par 82. Senior Ann Laney, from Charlotte, N.C., fell two strokes behind Hunt to tie for 52nd. Freshman Jordan Allyne, from Bellevue, Wash., finished 86th with a 256 total. One stroke behind the second-placed Blue Devils, who posted a 22-over-par 310 on Sunday, was Auburn in third with a 909 total. Arkansas finished in fourth with a 913 followed by Furman in fifth place with a 915. For the individuals, Arkansas' Stacey Lewis held onto the top spot with a 216 total after firing an equal-to-par 77 in the final round.
Runner-up Amanda Blumenherst of Duke fell one stroke behind Lewis with a one-under-par 217. Steffi Kirchmayr of College of Charleston fell to third place to tie with Auburn's Cydney Clanton with a five-over-par 221. Two players tied with North Carolina's Crane for fifth place - Nannette Hill of Wake Forest and Jessica Yadloczky of Florida.
The final round of the Bryan National Collegiate was played at the Bryan Park Players Course, a par 72, 6,319-yard layout. The Lady Tar Heels will return to action on Friday, April 14th at the ACC Championships in Daytona Beach, Fla. |
