Women's Golf Finishes Sixth At Liz Murphey Classic

ATHENS, GA - The University of North Carolina women's golf team finished in sixth place after the final round of the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic today. The team shot a 12-over par 300 to move from seventh to sixth place. Their final score of 912 put the Tar Heels 33 strokes behind the victorious University of Florida, who shot a 15-over 879. Auburn University followed close behind, tying Florida for the day with a two-over par 290 and barely missing the title with a final score of 880. Taking third place was the host team, the University of Georgia, who carded a ten-over 298 for the day and finished with a total of 894.

Jeanne Cho of Florida finished with an even par score of 216 to knock Anna Gertsson of Mississippi State out of the lead and win the tournament. Gertsson and Angela Jerman of Georgia tied for second place with totals of 217. Two strokes behind Gertsson and Jerman was Florida*s Brittany Straza, shooting the lowest score of the day, a 3-under par 69, to push her into fourth place with a total of 219. Rounding out the top five were teammates Diana Ramage and Courtney Swaim of Auburn who both finished at four-over par 220.

Sophomore Ashley Prange and Junior Abby Spector retained the lead for UNC after moving from 13th to eighth place, carding par 72 scores for the day with totals of 6-over 222. Junior Meghan Adams pushed past teammate Beth Lever for the 3rd spot on the team, tying for 38th place with a two-over 74 for the day and 233 total. Senior Lever carded a ten-over 82 in the final round to finish tied for 60th place with a total of 238. Freshman Romi Irons' score of 84 led her to a total of 252 to finish in 88th place.

The 54-hole tournament was played at theUniversity of Georgia Golf Course, which features a par 72, 6,104-yard layout.
