Women Golfers Move Into Seventh Place At Liz Murphey Classic

ATHENS, GA. -- The University of North Carolina women's golf team is in seventh place after two rounds of the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic. The Tar Heels climbed up from the ninth spot after shooing 299 as a team on Saturday for a two-day total of 612. Carolina is 23 strokes behind leader Florida, which fired a 288 today for a two-day total of 589. Auburn had the day's best combined score, a 287, and moved to within just one stroke of the Gators with a second-place 590. The host Georgia Bulldogs, the first round leaders, shot a 299 and fell into third place with a 596 total. Anna Gertsson of Mississippi State retained the individual lead after firing a two-under-par 70 for a total of 141. Jeanne Cho of Florida fired a tournament-best 68 and jumped into sole possesion of second place, just two strokes behind Gertsson. Danielle Downey of Georgia and Diana Ramage of Auburn are tied for third with two-day totals of 145. For UNC, Ashley Prange and Abby Spector continue to pace each other and are tied for 13th place. Both players carded their second consecutive three-over 75. Carolina senior Beth Lever moved into a tie for 40th after shoothing a 76. Junior Meghan Adams moved up 27 spots and into a tie for 54th after a one-over round of 73. Freshman Romi Irons is tied for 78th place after firing an 85. The 54-hole event continues through Sunday and is being played at the University of Georgia Golf Course which features a par 72, 6,104-yard layout.
