Tar Heels Tied For 12th After Day One

BLYTHEWOOD, S.C. -- The University of North Carolina women golfers find themselves tied for twelveth place after the first round of the Lady Gamecock Classic which is being held at the par 72, 5,996-yard University Club in Blytewood, South Carolina. The Tar Heels are led by Ashley Prange who finished the first round in a five-way tie for twelveth after shooting a one-over-par-73. UNC*s Abby Spector and Beth Lever are tied for 51st after a round of 79. Meghan Adams follows in 57th with an 80, while Shelley McKevitt finished the round with a eleven-over-par-83.
The tournament is led in team standings by the University of Texas who finished the day at even-par- 288. Duke University follows in second at 290 while the University of Tennessee and host South Carolina are tied for third. Rounding out the top five is Vanderbilt and Purdue University at 296.
Five players share the lead in individual scoring after each fired one-under-par-71's. They include Duke University's Niloufar Aazm-Zanganeh, Adrienne Gautreaux of South Carolina, Janice Olivencia of Texas, and the University of Tennessee's Jessicca Shepley and Young-A Yang.
The second round gets underway at 8 a.m. Saturday.
