Tar Heel Women's Golf Team Runner-Up At Chrysler Challenge

DESTIN, FLA. - The University of North Carolina women's golf team fired a 298 in the final round for a 919 total and was the runner-up at the Chrysler Challenge, finishing 24 strokes behind host and champion Florida State. The Tar Heels were led by senior Katie Miller, from Jeannette, Pa., who fired a two-over-par 73 for a 223 total and a third-place finish. Miller finished eight strokes behind individual medalist Caroline Westrup of Florida State and just one stroke behind runner-up Dori Carter of Ole Miss. Colette Lowe, a junior from Ranclo Palos Verdes, Calif., fired the low round of the day for the Tar Heels - a one-over 72. She carded a 17-over 230 total to finish in ninth place. Sophomore Lauren Hunt, from Little River, S.C., tied for 16th place at 234 after scoring three rounds of 78. Sydney Crane, a sophomore from Jamestown, N.C., finished in 18th place at 235 while freshman Kate Thomas, from New South Wales, Australia, tied for 22nd place with a 238 total. Charleston finished in third place of the team race at 937, 18 strokes behind the Tar Heels. Mississippi finished fourth at 941 while Mississippi State placed fifth at 953.
