Carolina Women Golfers Finish Tenth At Suntrust

GAINESVILLE, FLA. - The University of North Carolina women's golf team fisnished tenth at the SunTrust Lady Gator Invitational after posting a three-day total of 941. The Tar Heels combined for a team score of 310 on Sunday. The host Florida Gators won the event, posting a tinal round team score of 300 to end with a three-day total of 900. The Gators came in nine strokes ahead of second-place South Carolina (909). Rounding out the top five were the University of Georgia (910), Vanderbilt University (920) and Louisiana State University (925). Meredith Duncan of Louisiana State led all individuals throughout the event. Duncan fired a third round 75, and finished with a total of 214, seven strokes ahead of a group of second place finishers. UNC Sophomore Ashley Prange bounced back from a second-round 86 to shoot a two-over par 72. Prange finished the tournament tied for 14th. Junior Abby Spector carded an 80, and finished tied for 41st. Senior Shelley McKevitt dropped one place into a tie for 47th after a round of 81. Senior Beth Lever moved up from 59th to finish tied for 54th after a final round score of 80. Tar Heel Freshman Romi Irons posted a 78 during the final round and climbed into a tie for 69th. The 54-hole event was played at the par 70, 5,927-yard University Golf Course in Gainesville, Fla.
