Carolina Golfers In Sixth Place At Lady Gator Invitational

GAINESVILLE, FLA. - The University of North Carolina women's golf team carded a 310 in the second round for a 602 total and slipped from third to sixth place after two rounds of the SunTrust Lady Gator Invitational. Florida still leads the field of 15 teams wih a three-over-par 563 total after firing a three-over 283 on Saturday. Tar Heel junior Sydney Crane, who led all individuals after the first round, struggled with a nine-over 79 in the second round and is tied for 11th place. Crane, from Jamestown, N.C., is tied with five other golfers at five-over 145. Lauren Hunt, a junior from Little River, S.C., was the low Tar Heel on Saturday with a four-over 74 for a six-over 146 total and is tied for 17th place. Senior Ann Laney, from Charlotte, N.C., shot a 78 for a 155 total and is tied for 44th place. Colette Lowe, a senior from Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif., is one shot back at 156 in a tie for 50th place after posting a 79 while Kate Thomas, a sophomore from Murwillumbah, Australia, also shot 79 for a 161 total and is tied for 69th. Tiffany Chudy from Florida leads all individuals after two rounds with a one-under 139 total after firing an even par 70. A trio of players is tied for second place at one-over 141 - Louisville's Cindy LaCrosse and Florida's Whitney Myers and Jessica Yadloczky. Another Gator, Hannah Yun, is alone in fifth place with a two-over 142 total. Louisville is in second place in the team standings with a six-over 576 total, three strokes behind the Florida Gators. Mississippi is in third place at 585 while Wake Forest is fourth at 596 and Georgia State is fifth with a 600 total, two strokes ahead of the Tar Heels.
The final round of the 54-hole event will be played Sunday at the Mark Bostick Golf Course at the University of Florida, a par 70, 5,907-yard layout. Live scoring is available on Golfstat.com |
