Senior Spotlight: Laree Beans

Nov. 17, 2007

Laree Beans, a senior field hockey forward from Bethlehem, Pa., took time out recently to share some thoughts with TarHeelBlue.com.

Q and A by Athletic Communications Student Assistant Kathryn Roth

What made you decide that you wanted to play field hockey for UNC?
I loved UNC the minute I stepped on campus and knew that it was the place for me. I knew that I would be challenged athletically and would be surrounded by great coaches and teammates at the same time.

What did you do over the summer to prepare for this season?
I did my summer workouts and tried to play as much hockey as I could.

In the past five years what has been your most memorable moment?
My teammates. Every moment we have together, whether it is good or bad, made my time here so great.

What are your plans after graduation?
I am unsure at this time, but I would love to be a teacher or a field hockey coach one day.

What have you personally done to keep the momentum of this team going?
Take everything one day at a time. We need to stay in the moment in order to succeed.

Could you reflect on the last five seasons and what you think were the best moments and the worst?
Well, there were so many great things. And bad moments were there, too, but they were the moments that made me a better person.

If you had not devoted your time to playing field hockey while in college what would you be doing instead?
I don't even know. I would be very bored.
