UNC Field Hockey Hosts Virginia

Oct. 24, 2001

The fourth-ranked UNC field hockey team (12-4) will play its final home game of the regular season Thursday, hosting eighth-ranked Virginia (11-5) at 4 p.m. at Francis E. Henry Stadium. The nonconference matchup was originally set for Sept. 16 but was rescheduled following the events of Sept. 11.

The first 100 students to arrive at Henry Stadium will receive free UNC field hockey t-shirts.

Thursday's meeting is the second of the season between North Carolina and Virginia. UNC topped the Cavaliers 4-1 in Charlottesville on Oct. 13.

The Tar Heels finished Atlantic Coast Conference play 2-2 with a 1-0 overtime loss to Maryland last Saturday. They defeated Duke 3-1 on Sunday in their most recent outing.

Virginia is coming off a 5-0 win Wednesday at Georgetown.

Carolina leads the ACC in points scored this season with a total of 171 and in assists with 45. UNC ranks second to Maryland in goals with 63.

Seniors Abby Martin and Abbey Woolley and freshman Kerry Falgowski lead the Tar Heels in goals scored this year with 11 each. That total ranks third in the conference.
