Kendell Named Progress Energy Player Of The Week

Sept. 24, 2007

Senior midfielder Heather Kendell came off the bench to score a goal and provide an assist as top-ranked UNC beat No. 13 Duke 5-0 Saturday at Francis E. Henry Stadium. Kendell, from Chapel Hill, had her first assist of the season on the game's second goal, by Alli Tanner in the 45th minute of play. She went on to score the final goal of the day as the Tar Heels got their fifth consecutive shutout and improved to 10-0. The win gave UNC one point in the 2007-08 race for the Carlyle Cup.

Other Nominees:

CASEY NOGUEIRA
Women's Soccer, Forward
Sophomore, Raleigh, N.C.

Casey Nogueira excelled in Norh Carolina's 5-0 win over once-beaten Ohio State last Friday by scoring three goals, the first hat trick of her career and the first by a Tar Heel since Yael Averbuch had one in the first round of the 2006 NCAA Tournament against UNC Asheville. Nogueira's three goals came on six shots, five of which were on goal. Nogueira ran her goal total to five this season, exceeding the four she scored as a freshman in 2006.
