Three Tar Heels Named To All-ACC Academic Team

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- North Carolina field hockey players Rachel Dawson, Heather Kendell and Katy Tran were among 31 student-athletes named to the inaugural All-Atlantic Coast Conference Academic Field Hockey Team, announced Thursday by the league. Each of the league's six schools is represented on the team.

To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during her academic career.

Dawson, a junior from Berlin, N.J., is a business administration major with a 3.74 grade point average. She earned second-team All-America honors in 2005, when she also was named All-ACC.

Kendell, a sophomore in eligibility during the 2005 season but a junior academically, has a 3.86 GPA and is majoring in exercise and sport science. A starter in all 21 games for the Tar Heels in 2005, she is from Chapel Hill.

Tran, who finished her career with the 2005 season, earned a double major in biology and exercise & sport science with a 3.51 GPA. She earned first-team All-America honors in 2005. A three-year starter at goalkeeper from Grantville, Pa., she also earned All-ACC and All-ACC Tournament recognition.
