Joel Furtek on:

Why I drive:
For me. We need to get the boats to San Diego, and we need someone to do it. But ultimately, the time on the road is the time for me. Time to ponder team decisions, personnel decisions, personal decisions. Time to sift through things, to leave behind the unimportant and to let your mind wrap itself around something. Time to not think, too, to focus only on the lines on the road and the miles until the next stop. Some people draw energy from having others around them, and some draw energy from their time alone. I come strongly from the latter camp, and time alone on the road seems to be extra-strength recharging time. I may be physically exhausted at the end of the trip, but I'm mentally primed and ready to go. That's why I drive: For me.
