Tar Heels To Open Fall Racing

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The North Carolina rowing team will open its 2008-09 season Sunday, racing at the Occoquan Chase in Occoquan, Va. Representing the Tar Heels will be three eights and four fours. "Carolina Rowing is excited about competing in its first race of the season this weekend at the Occoquan Chase," UNC coach Sarah Haney said. "We have shown tremendous progress throughout the fall season so far and we are ready to see what our speed is in relationship to our competitors. The team is anxious to race after a strong performance in a scrimmage versus Duke a few weeks ago and we are look forward to kicking off our fall racing in Virginia this weekend." Carolina also will see fall action at the Head of the Chattahoochee in Chattanooga, Tenn., Nov. 1-2. Spring competition begins on March 21 with a race against Bucknell in Charlottesville, Va. The Tar Heels then will travel to Washington, D.C. to take on Georgetown and George Washington on March 28 and George Mason on March 29.
On April 4, Carolina travels to Tuscaloosa, Ala., to race SMU and the host Crimson Tide. Clemson's Lake Hartwell will be the site of the ACC Championships on April 18. UNC will host Old Dominion April 25 at Lake Wheeler in Raleigh. On May 8-9, the Tar Heels are set to race at the Dad Vail Regatta in Philadelphia.
