The University of North Carolina crew team will compete for this first time this fall on Saturday morning, taking on Duke in a dual meet at Lake Michie, just outside of Durham. The Duke and UNC men's club teams will also be competing.

Women's racing begins at 8:15 a.m. with the varsity eight. The final race of the day is scheduled for 11 a.m.

"We're excited to enter our first competition of the year," UNC coach Joel Furtek said. "Even though it's early in the season, this will give us a good marker of our progress so far."

An in-state race is a luxury for the Tar Heels, who will compete in North Carolina only three more times this season, in events that UNC will host next spring. "We love racing so close to home," Furtek says. "That's so rare for us. Having the support of friends and families when we compete really means a lot."

Schedule of events:
8:15 a.m.–Varsity eight
8:45 a.m.–Novice four
9:15 a.m.–Pair
10:15 a.m.–Novice eight
10:45 a.m.–Varsity four
11:00 a.m.–Double

Directions to Lake Michie:
• Take I-85N to the Duke Street/Roxboro Road exit (501N)
• Follow 501N to Bahama Road and take a right
• Follow Bahama Road through the town of Bahama
• The road will wind toward the lake then cross the lake on a bridge. After the bridge, turn right on the first gravel road in to Lake Michie Recreation Area.
