CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -- North Carolina rowers Julie Domina and Adriann Spinks have been named National Scholar Athletes by the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA). The award recognized rowing team members with a 3.5 or higher cumulative grade point average who competed in at least 75 percent of the team's spring races. Domina and Spinks were named to the South Region team, which included 28 honorees. A total of 142 student-athletes from 49 schools across the nation were recognized for their efforts during the 2005 season. Domina, a senior from Cary, N.C. (Cary High School), earned All-Atlantic Coast Conference honors in 2005, when she served as a team co-captain for the second year. A three-year member of the UNC varsity squad, she rowed in the varsity eight - Carolina's top boat - throughout the 2005 season and was voted team MVP. She graduated this month with a degree in exercise and sport science. At Carolina, she earned ACC Academic Honor Roll and Dean's List honors and served on UNC's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. Spinks, a sophomore from Francisco, N.C. (North Stokes High School), also rowed in the varsity eight all season. A member of the varsity squad since her freshman year, she is an exercise and sport science major and has earned ACC Academic Honor Roll and Dean's List honors.
