UNC Rowing Announces Team Awards

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The North Carolina rowing program has announced its team awards for the 2005-06 season. The Tar Heel varsity and novice squads each honored winners of the Coach's Award, the Spirit Award and the awards for Fastest 2K, Most Improved and Outstanding Performer in Strength and Conditioning. The Coach's Award winners for 2005-06 are Adriann Spinks, a junior from Francisco, N.C., for the varsity squad and Jasmine Miller, a freshman from Cary, N.C., for the novice squad. The honor goes to a team member "who has demonstrated consistency, dedication and hard work, puts themselves on the line for the team every day, and can be counted on to give her best performance every day." Winners of the Spirit Award were Lisy McIntee, a sophomore from Bala Cynwyd, Pa., for the varsity squad and Maeghan Sill, a freshman from Raleigh, for the novice squad. The Spirit Award is voted on by the team and is based on who squad members think demonstrates the best attitude, work ethic and dedication to the team on and off the water. McIntee also was honored for rowing the fastest 2K on the varsity squad, while Meredith Brown and Mary Sasson tied for the novice honor. Brown is a junior from Southend, Essex, England, and Sasson is a freshman from Pittsburgh. Megan Mitzel, a junior from Catonsville, Md., was named Most Improved for the varsity squad, while Elizabeth Marx, a junior from Charlotte, was honored from the novice squad. Named Outstanding Performer in Strength and Conditioning were Spinks for the varsity squad and Marx for the novices.
