North Carolina rowing will host several summer camps for girls and one camp for women this July at University Lake. Campers will train under Joel Furtek, coach of the successful Carolina program. "We're excited to share America's oldest collegiate sport with the state of North Carolina," Furtek said. "Camp participants will learn the basics of Carolina's newest sport, as well as what it's like to be a Division I varsity athlete."

The program will include rowing and sculling instruction. Rowers and coxswains using two-way radios will be videotaped daily. Campers will have the option of receiving a compiled video of their own rowing.

Campers will stay in the air-conditioned Granville Towers, adjacent to the UNC campus. The food is superb and other amenities include swimming pools and cable TV in the lounges.

  • Girls' camps: July 7-10, July 10-13, July 18-21
  • Masters camp: July 18-21

    Junior resident price: $515
    Junior extended day price (9 a.m. to 9 p.m.): $425
