Tar Heels to Host North Carolina Rowing Classic
CHAPELHILL, N.C.--The North Carolina women's rowing team, in its second year as a varsity program, will host the Daughtry's Carolina Rowing Classic Saturday, April 24, at Seaforth State Recreation Area on Jordan Lake. Besides UNC, the field for the Tar Heels' first-ever home regatta includes Clemson, Duke and Tennessee.
The event will include seven races with the first race, novice fours, beginning at 9:00 a.m. The final race of the day--in which the Carolina, Clemson and Duke varsity eights will compete for the Daughtry Cup, the Championship of the Carolinas--begins at 11 a.m. Admission to the park is $4 per car; there is no additional charge for admission to the regatta. Directions to the park, which is located off of U.S. 64, are available on the UNC website at www.tarheelblue.com.
The North Carolina crew, coached by Joel Furtek, has competed successfully this year against some of the best collegiate teams in the country. The Tar Heels' varsity eight boat is ranked 18th in the nation in the latest US Rowing poll.
