CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - North Carolina fell one spot to 18th in this week's US Rowing women's eight poll, but the Tar Heels hope to regain that ground while racing in Washington, D.C., this weekend. Carolina's varsity boats had last weekend off, but this Saturday will go up against George Washington and Georgetown.

"We're looking forward to Saturday's event as a chance to step up and race two crews that have received some votes in the poll and have faced some fast competition," UNC coach Joel Furtek said. Georgetown received 10 votes in the latest US Rowing poll, and George Washington one.

Following this road trip, the Tar Heels will host their first home competition in two years as a varsity program, April 24 at Jordan Lake's Seaforth State Recreation Area. Also competing in the Daughtry's Carolina Rowing Classic will be Duke, Clemson and Tennessee. The first race begins at 9:20 and the final race*in which the Carolina, Clemson and Duke varsity eights will compete for the Daughtry Cup, the Championship of the Carolinas' begins at 11 a.m.
