UNC Varsity Eight Wins ACC Honor

GREENSBORO, N.C. - North Carolina's varsity eight has been named Atlantic Coast Conference Crew of the Week after sweeping the competition last weekend at Lake Lemon in Bloomington, Ind.

In Saturday's morning session, the Tar Heels defeated Eastern Michigan, crossing the finish line in a time of 6:43.6 to win the event. In the afternoon, North Carolina took on Cincinnati and Dayton, winning its second race with a time of 6:51.7.

Competing in the Carolina varsity eight were Rebecca Bennett (senior, Wilmington, N.C.), Julie Domina (junior, Cary, N.C.), Jen Cox (sophomore, Austin, Texas), Grace Wallenborn (senior, Asheville, N.C.), Michelle Hall (junior, Chapel Hill, N.C.), Jess Ziebell (junior, Rocky Mount, N.C.), Sarah Stargel (sophomore, Largo, Fla.,), Clara Leigh (junior, Orlando, Fla.) and coxswain Terry McCloskey (junior, Charlotte, N.C.).

After a weekend without competition, UNC will travel to the ACC Championships on April 17. Hosted by Clemson University, the racing will take place on Lake Hartwell in Clemson, S.C.
