Varsity
The Virginia varsity won all four of the 1100-meter pieces, with Virginia's second varsity in second and Carolina's varsity third but gaining speed. UNC's second varsity beat the UVa varsity lightweight eight on two of four, Virginia's third varsity on three of four.

Novice
Virginia's first novice won all four races, but Carolina's first novice managed to beat Virginia's second novice on last two pieces.

"The team really stepped up to face a faster opponent today," Coach Joel Furtek said of the competition. "While Virginia is clearly faster than UNC, the fight and drive we showed should serve us well as we head into our regular season. We'll be facing six of the top ten ranked schools in San Diego, and we'll need every bit of Carolina fight we have."

The team will scrimmage San Diego State at 6:30 a.m. Pacific Time on Thursday, then race in heats for the San Diego Crew Classic on Saturday. Varsity will race at 8:30 a.m. and second varsity at 10:20 to determine Sunday race times.
