UNC Rowers To Open Spring Season

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -- The North Carolina rowing team will open the spring season Saturday by hosting Georgetown for a morning of racing at Lake Wheeler in Raleigh. The first race begins at 8:20 a.m.

UNC will field a varsity eight, second varsity eight, varsity four, novice four and two novice eights for racing against the Hoyas. Up first is the varsity eights race at 8:20, followed by the novice eights at 8:35, the varsity fours at 9:10 and the novice fours at 9:25.

Directions to Lake Wheeler Park:
Using Interstate 40 in Raleigh as a reference point, take exit 297 (Lake Wheeler Rd.) and proceed south (away from Raleigh). Stay on Lake Wheeler Rd., passing across Tryon Rd. and through flashing yellow lights at Simpkins Rd., which connects to Lake Wheeler Rd. on the left. Of of Lake Wheeler Rd., the park entrance will be on the right, approximately 4.5 miles from Interstate 40.

Make a right into the front entrance of the park and stay on the long winding road to the waterfront. Lake Wheeler Park can only be accessed via Lake Wheeler Rd. Although there is a small bridge that passes over Lake Wheeler by Penny Rd., fishing and the launching of boats is not allowed at that location.
