Feb. 27, 2003

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The North Carolina women's rowing team will stage its only home event of the season on Saturday, hosting Duke for the Carolina Dash. Racing action begins at 9 a.m. at University Lake.

The Carolina Dash will open the spring racing season for UNC and mark the first competition of the school year for the varsity squad, which is directed by first-year head coach and former Tar Heel rower Sarah Haney. The Carolina novices raced twice in the fall.

Saturday's racing will include varsity eight, second varsity eight, novice eight and varsity four boats and will consist of three 1,000-meter races in each class. The varsity fours and second varsity eights will race first, alternating for three rounds each. After they finish, the novice eights and varsity eights will go three rounds each. Racing should finish by approximately 10:30 a.m.

Specator parking is available at the park and ride lot on Jones Ferry Road. Signs will be posted to point visitors to parking and to the UNC boathouse. For directions to University Lake, click here.
