CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - The North Carolina rowing team wrapped up its fall season Sunday with a day of racing at the Rivanna Romp, hosted by the University of Virginia at the Rivanna Reservoir. UNC's best finishes were fifth in the novice eight, 11th in the varsity four and 13th in the varsity eight.

"It was definitely the toughest race we'd encountered all fall," UNC coach Sarah Haney said. "For the most part we handled ourselves well as a team. There are definitely some things we can work on to make improvements and be a little more competitive in the spring, but overall it was not a bad performance, pretty much where we thought we were at this point in the season. We feel good about the fall season and where we are and the progress we've made."

UNC's varsity eight came across the line in a time of 14:55.24. Ohio State took first in 13:51.88, with Wisconsin second (14:02.30), Virginia third (14:05.91), Tennessee fourth (14:10.93) and Clemson fifth (14:27.17) in the 22-boat field.

The Tar Heels raced three boats in the novice eight race, with UNC A taking fifth (16:46.55), UNC B ninth (17:43.51) and UNC C 11th (19:31.06) in the 11-boat field. Clemson's A boat was first in 15:24.56, followed by Virginia's A (15:35.34), Clemson's B (16:01.24) and Virginia's B (16:12.87).

Carolina also raced three boats in the varsity fours race, with UNC A finishing 11th (16:29.960, UNC B 15th (16:47.10) and UNC C 24th (17:42.68) in the 24-boat race. Wisconsin A was first in 16:00.66, Wisconsin B second in 16:08.10, Clemson B third in 16:08.57 and Ohio State B fourth in 16:09.58.
