Tar Heels Wrap Up Season At South/Central Sprints

OAK RIDGE, Tenn. - The UNC rowing team wrapped up the 2006-07 campaign Sunday with a second day of racing at the Aramark South/Central Sprints on Melton Hill Lake in Oak Ridge, Tenn. The Tar Heels finished the weekend ninth in the South Region standings and 20th overall with 99 points. Virginia led the way overall and in the South Region with 440 points. The Tar Heel novice eight had the day's best performance, following up its Saturday semifinal win with another victory in Sunday's C final. UNC finished in 7:15.60, ahead of Cincinnati (7:27.08), Indiana (7:28.08), Murray State (7:39.18), Tennessee B (7:41.90) and Duke (7:46.23). The Carolina varsity eight finished sixth in its C final in 7:06.05. UNC's second varsity eight was second in the D final in 7:24.42. Carolina's novice eight B boat was second in the D final in 7:44.94, behind Eastern Michigan.. UNC was seventh in the varsity four C final in 8:12.07 and fourth in the open four C final in 8:35.11.
