Laura Baylor, a UNC graduate and former Tar Heel rower, is in her third year on the Carolina rowing staff. After serving as the varsity assistant coach for two seasons, she was promoted in August to the position of novice coach.

Baylor lettered as a member of UNC's first varsity rowing squad in 1997-98. She graduated from North Carolina in 1998 with a bachelor's degree in exercise and sports science and earned a master's degree in exercise physiology from UNC in 2000. Before returning to Chapel Hill at the start of the 2002-03 school year, Baylor worked as a personal trainer and as the lab manager of the Human Performance Laboratory at the Naval Health Research Center in San Diego.

She rowed for three years at UNC, the first two as part of the club program. She is a native of Southern Pines, N.C., and attended Pinecrest High School with UNC head coach Sarah Haney. The two also were teammates at UNC.
