Latta Selected For South Carolina Honor

COLUMBIA, S.C. - Ivory Latta, a junior on the North Carolina women's basketball team, has been named Co-Female Athlete of the Year by the South Carolina Athletic Hall of Fame. Latta, a 5-6 point guard, is a native of McConnells, S.C. Latta shares the honor with Kate Niehaus, a four-time cross country high school state champion. The two will be honored on May 22 at the organization's annual banquet in Columbia, S.C. Latta averaged a team-high 18.4 points for the Tar Heels, who finished 33-2 in 2005-06 after making the program's first Final Four trip since 1994. A consensus All-America selection, she was named national player of the year by ESPN.com, the U.S. Basketball Writers Association and Basketball Times, and was the winner of the Nancy Lieberman Award as the nations's top point guard.
