Carolina Celebrates 2006-07 Campaign At Banquet
April 11, 2007 CHAPEL HILL --- The North Carolina women's basketball team celebrated its record-breaking 2006-07 season with its annual year-end banquet Wednesday night at the Dean E. Smith Center. The players, coaches and support staff were joined by hundreds of friends, family and fans as the Tar Heels looked back on a season that saw the team reach a second-straight Final Four and win a third-straight Atlantic Coast Conference title. The event also marked a final goodbye for the most decorated seniors in school history - Ivory Latta and Camille Little. The seniors closed the banquet with emotional speeches reflecting on their time in Chapel Hill. Latta, along with junior Erlana Larkins, was honored as the team's top offensive player, while Little and junior LaToya Pringle shared top defensive honors. The coaches award was presented to junior Alex Miller, while junior Meghan Austin and sophomore Martina Wood shared the Most Inspirational Player Award. For the third year in a row, Larkins was recognized as the team's Overall Champion for receiving the most cumulative points in all of the statistical categories in which totals are kept throughout the season. Coach Sylvia Hatchell presented awards to the team's top players in the following categories: The Tar Heels finished 34-4 in 2007 and set single-season school records for field goals (1,174), three-point attempts (719), rebounds (1,721), assists (676), blocks (253), steals (544), points (3,179), scoring margin (28.7) and wins (34). Basketballs were presented to Latta, Larkins, Little and Pringle for various milestones and school records. Latta reached 2,000 career points and set school records for single-season three-pointers, career points, career threes, career three-point percentage and career free-throw percentage. Pringle set a new school record for single-season blocks. Amanda Cooley was given the Volunteer of the Year Award and longtime secretary Joan Nipper was given the Outstanding Service Award.
