The No. 2 seed has won each of the last two national championships (Baylor 2005, Connecticut 2004). Prior to that a No. 1 seed had won the tournament the past six straight years.
In November of 1995, the first women's basketball game - the Reebok Women's Basketball Classic - was played in the Fleet Center. Ohio State defeated Boston College, 62-40; Vanderbilt defeated UCLA 70-64. The crowd of 8,307 was the largest to ever watch a women's basketball game in Massachusetts.
In 1996, 10 years ago, in the Reebok Women's Basketball Classic, Connecticut defeated Boston College 76-38 and Vanderbilt defeated Louisville 73-60. The crowd of 9,337 set the record for attendance of a women's game in Massachusetts.
