Larkins, Pringle, McCants Earn All-ACC Honors
March 3, 2008
GREENSBORO, N.C. --- North Carolina's Erlana Larkins, LaToya Pringle and Rashanda McCants were named All-Atlantic Coast Conference, the league office announced Monday. Larkins and Pringle were named to the first team, while McCants was a second-team selection. "I am so proud that Erlana, LaToya and Rashanda have been recognized for their outstanding play this season," head coach Sylvia Hatchell said. "Erlana and LaToya are very deserving as seniors, and for Rashanda to make second-team as a junior will only give her more motivation going forward. Our team has been so balanced and unselfish all season, and these three young ladies are great representatives of that team concept." Larkins and fellow first-teamer Crystal Langhorne of Maryland become the ninth and 10th players in ACC history to earn first-team honors three times. Former Tar Heel standouts Ivory Latta, Tracy Reid and Tonya Sampson were also three-time first-team selections. Larkins, who leads the team in rebounding with 9.2 boards per game, was a first-team pick in 2006 and 2007, as well as a second-team selection in 2005. Pringle, who has emerged as a star in her final season in Chapel Hill, is an All-ACC selection for the first time in her career. The Fayetteville, N.C., senior is second on the team in scoring (13.8 ppg) and third in rebounding (7.0 rpg). She also leads the ACC in blocked shots with 78, including six in Sunday's 82-51 victory over No. 12 Duke. McCants is also a newcomer to the All-ACC list, as the junior from Asheville, N.C., led the Tar Heels in scoring with 15.8 points per game. McCants, who is in the midst of a breakout season, has scored in double figures in 27 of 29 games and has set career highs in every major category. UNC (27-2) begins its quest for a fourth-consecutive ACC title Friday when the Tar Heels face the winner of the NC State/Clemson first round contest. Tip time for Friday's quarterfinal is approximately 3 p.m. The All-Atlantic Coast Conference women's teams, as voted on by 49 members of the Atlantic Coast Sports Media Association: First Team (Points) Second Team Third Team (Points) Honorable Mention (15 or more points)
