Carolina Wrestling Signs Three To Letters of Intent
Nov. 30, 2001 University of North Carolina wrestling coach Bill Lam announced Friday the signing of three student-athletes to letters of intent to wrestle at UNC. Two of the wrestlers were state finalists last season and two are from North Carolina. Wilmington N.C.'s John Whitehead was a North Carolina finalist last season at 160 pounds wrestling for Hoggard High School. Jacob Paul, of Fayetteville, N.C., finished third in the state at 125 pounds last year for Terry Sanford High School. "We're very excited to have these student-athletes joining our team," said UNC head coach Bill Lam. "We've always depended on in-state talent in the success of our program, and these young men will make a fine addition to the University both on and off the mat."
Announced earlier was the signing of Gordon Oehmig from Houston, Texas. Oehmig was a finalist in the Texas State Freestyle Tournament at 178 pounds last season.
