The University of North Carolina wrestling team will host the annual Sharpie-Carolina Open this Saturday in Carmichael Auditorium. Matches will begin at 9 a.m. and run all day with the finals starting at approximately 5 p.m.

Joining UNC coach Bill Lam's Tar Heels will be wrestlers from Cornell, Appalachian State and the Citadel, among others.

"The Sharpie-Carolina Open should be excellent this year," Lam says. "We've got some great wrestlers coming down, and it should be very competitive and exciting for the fans. This kind of competition should give us an early look at how our team will shape up."

This year's team features seven starters from last year's squad that finished 8-5 and finished tied for first in the Atlantic Coast Conference regular season with a 4-1 record.

The Tar Heels kicked off their season last weekend at the East Stroudsburg Open with six wrestlers placing in the top five of their respective weight classes.
