Kocher, Ferguson Lead Redshirts At Edinboro Open

EDINBORO, Pa. - Freshman George Kocher captured first place at 197 pounds and classmate Thomas Ferguson took third at 157 to lead North Carolina's group of redshirts at the Edinboro Open Feb. 2.

Kocher, a native of Ramsey, N.J., went 4-0 on the day en route to the individual title. He scored a 5-3 decision over Navy's Matthew Reck in the final and also posted a pin and a major decision on the day. Kocher is 10-5 in unattached action this season.

Ferguson lost his first round match but came back with five straight wins to take third. The Raleigh product topped Ross Tice of Kent State, 9-2, in the third-place bout. Ferguson is 10-6 in his redshirt year.

Freshmen Jay Adamson and Michael Robinson also competed at 125 pounds for Carolina.
