Mueller Snags ACC Weekly Wrestling Honor

Jan. 8, 2008

GREENSBORO, N.C. - North Carolina's Keegan Mueller, a 165-pound junior, was named Atlantic Coast Conference Wrestler of the Week Tuesday after recording a perfect record at the Lone Star Duals in South Grand Prairie, Texas, over the weekend. Mueller, who is ranked 18th in the nation in his weight class, was 3-0 at the event, including a win over the nation's No. 12 wrestler.

In his first match, Mueller recorded a 7-1 decision over Chris Musser of Brown, as the Tar Heels prevailed 28-3 in the team match-up. Then against Harvard's Chris Carpenter, the Dallas native dominated, pinning his opponent just 1:14 into the match and boosting UNC to a 35-3 team win. To close the day, Mueller defeated 12th-ranked Max Dean of Oklahoma in a 6-4 decision, emerging victorious in one of his biggest matches of the season.

Mueller has now won nine straight bouts and 13 of his last 14 overall to improve to 15-3 for the season. He and the Tar Heels will face their first conference opponent of the season this Sunday, Jan. 13, when they host No. 21 Maryland and Belmont Abbey at Carmichael Auditorium.
