CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The University of North Carolina Wrestling team had five pins in the first seven matches and never looked back in taking a 35-18 victory over The Citadel Sunday afternoon at Carmichael Auditorium. The win lifted UNC to 4-4 overall while The Citadel fell to 1-7-1.

As the result of a random draw, the 165-pound match was the first of the match in which UNCs Jamie Groudle pinned Jeff Healey in 1:01. UNCs Corey Bell won by technical fall over Jon Gross in the 174-pound match, increasing the Tar Heel lead to 12-0. Freshman Nick Richmond made quick work of Mike Regner in the 184-pound match, pinning him in 2:41. The Citadel gained their first points of the meet in the 197-pound match as Pat Hallwood pinned UNCs Johnny Rich in 4:41. Clint Osborn, who normally wrestles at 197 pounds, pinned The Citadels Josh Porter in 2:04 in the Heavyweight match.

Skyler Holman increased the Tar Heel lead to 29-6 by pinning Andrew Norris in the 125-pound match. Sophomore Brad Byers captured the fifth pin for the Tar Heels in the 133-pound match, taking down Clarence Davis in 1:47.

UNC dropped the final three matches of the meet. The Citadels Anthony Brooker took a 6-1 victory over Rusty Lee in the 141-pound match-up while Bulldog Justin Bellman won by technical fall over UNCs Jay Barnwell in the 149-pound match. Robby Bell took a 16-6 major decision victory over Steve Echeverri in the 157-pound match.

The Tar Heels 4 p.m. meet against the University of North Carolina at Greensboro was cancelled due to inclement weather. The Tar Heels will be back in action on Jan. 29, taking on Arizona State University in Tempe, Ariz.
