HAMPTON, Va. - The University of North Carolina wrestling team (1-2) dropped a 21-18 dual match to Rider University Saturday, eliminating the Tar Heels from Virginia Duals at the Hampton Coliseum.

With the win, Rider remained alive in the consolation bracket to face Wyoming.

Junior Venroy July continued to impress at 197 pounds with his second win of the weekend. He downed Rider's Jared Terrell by a 4-1 score to improve his record on the season to 13-11. Also victorious for the Tar Heels was sophomore Garrett Atkinson, who topped Rider's Ryan Cunningham 4-3 at 165 pounds.

Drew Forshey (125 pounds) and Jacob Paul (141 pounds) earned forfeit victories for Carolina.

The Tar Heels return to action Wednesday at Carmichael Auditorium against NC State at 7:30 p.m.
