Carolina Doubles Duo Advances At NCAA Championships

ATHENS, GA. - North Carolina's No. 17 doubles team of Trystan Meniane (Martinique, France) and Nicholas Monroe (Olathe, Kan.) advanced to the second round of the doubles championship at the 2003 NCAA Division I Men's Tennis Championships at Henry Feild Stadium on the University of Georgia campus Thursday night.

Meniane and Monroe defeated No. 19 Scott Brown and Chad Harris of Vanderbilt in straight sets in the first round of the tournament by a 7-5, 7-6 score. UNC will now face the No. 1 doubles team in the nation Friday in the second round. Richard Barker and William Barker of Rice beat LSU's Jason Hazley and Bryan Fisher in the first round.

In singles, Meniane fell in the second round of the tournament as No. 15 Hamid Mirzadeh of Florida downed Meniane (No. 32) by a score of 6-3, 6-2.
