Sam Paul Wins ACC Men's Tennis Coach-Of-The-Year Honors
April 19, 2007 GREENSBORO, N.C. - Student-athletes from nine schools landed spots on the 2007 All-Atlantic Coast Conference Men's Tennis Team, as announced by the league office Thursday morning. North Carolina picked up two of the three individual superlatives this year as Irvine, Calif. native Chris Kearney was tabbed ACC Freshman of the Year and Tar Heel head coach Sam Paul was voted ACC Coach of the Year for the fifth time in his career. Clemson and Duke paced all schools with three all-conference picks, while Miami, North Carolina, NC State, Virginia and Wake Forest received two nods apiece. Florida State and Virginia Tech completed the 18-member unit with one selection each. Kearney, who went 23-7 overall in singles on the year, helped UNC to a runner-up finish in the league's regular-season standings. The Irvine, Calif., product became the third Tar Heel to take top rookie honors and the first since 1999 when Bjorn Rencken won the award. Paul picked up his second ACC coaching honors in the last four years after guiding the Tar Heels to a 21-2 overall record on the season and a 9-2 ledger in ACC action. UNC started the season with 20 straight wins, its best beginning to a season since 1965. It marked the fifth time in Paul's career he was voted by his peers for the coaching award. UNC junior Benjamin Carlotti joined Kearney as a member of the All-ACC Team. 2007 ALL-ACC TEAM Jarmaine Jenkins Clemson
