Nicholas Monroe Named ACC Player Of The Week

GREENSBORO, N.C. - North Carolina's Nicholas Monroe earned ACC Men's Tennis Player of the Week honors Tuesday.

A sophomore from Olathe, Kan., he won three singles macthes last week to help the Tar Heels clinch the No. 2 seed in this week's Men's Tennis Championship.

In singles action, Monroe downed Joel Spicher of Duke 6-7, 6-1, 6-0, Troy Domers of Maryland 6-2, 6-0 and Jay Curtis of Virginia 6-1, 6-2. Monroe is 22-10 overall in singles this season, including 14-6 in dual matches.

Teamed with freshman Daniel Pinchbeck, the duo won all three of their doubles matches this week as they defeated the team of Spicher and Shults from Duke 8-6, the combo of Domers and Reichsfeld of Maryland 8-0 and the tandem of Romesburg and Curtis of Virginia 8-6.
