Men's Tennis Wins Two Titles at USC Invitational

Columbia, S.C. - Sophomore Andy Metzler won the B Flight Singles title and Carolina's top two doubles teams shared the A Flight Doubles Championship as play concluded Sunday afternoon at the USC Fall Invitational. Metzler, a native of Kansas City, Mo., defeated UNC-Greensboro's Paul Goode 6-3, 6-1. Metzler improved his singles record to 5-1 this fall. Junior Trystan Meniane and freshman Daniel Pinchbeck upset the tournament's #1 seeds, Tony Mule and Mario Torres of UNC-Greensboro, in the semifinals. Sophomore Nicholas Monroe and freshman Geoff Boyd defeated Charlotte's John McGovern and Ola Jonsson in the other semifinal match. The two Tar Heel tandems were declared A Flight co-champions. Carolina will host the prestigious Top of the Hill/ITA Region II Championships this week at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center. Qualifying for the event will begin at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, with play continuing all day through Sunday, October 28.
