STONE MOUNTAIN, GA. - North Carolina's #1 doubles team has advanced to the main draw of the 2001 Intercollegiate Tennis Association Men's All-America Championships after a big victory Wednesday. Meanwhile, senior Marcio Petrone fell in singles play and was eliminated from the bracket.

Sophomore Nicholas Monroe and freshman Geoff Boyd upset the eighth-seeded duo of Garland and Hansen of Pepperdine by an 8-6 score in the second round of the qualifying tournament Wednesday to earn a spot in the main draw which begins Thursday.

Petrone, who was seeded #2 in the qualifying tournament, was upset in the second round by Geoff Hiscox of Bowling Green by a 2-6, 6-4, 6-3 score thus ending his participation in the Championships.
