Donato, Fogleman Win Opening Matches At All-American Championships

TULSA, OKLA. - Junior Clay Donato and senior Taylor Fogleman each recorded a win on the first day of qualifying play Monday at the 2008 D'Novo/ITA Men's All-American Championships.

Donato, of Toronto, Ontario, beat UCLA's 52nd-ranked Haythem Abid 6-3, 4-6, 6-3. Fogleman, a native of New Orleans, La., made quick work of Tennessee's David Sandgren, winning 6-2, 6-2.

The two Tar Heels will now advance to play in the second round on Tuesday. Donato will face Marc Spicijaric of Illinois, while Fogleman will play Texas A&M's Will Spencer. The two need to win three matches in a row to advance to the main draw of the tournament.
