ATHENS, GA. - Members of the University of North Carolina men's tennis team represented the Tar Heels over the weekend at the Southern Collegiates held at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens, GA. Players for Carolina included Senior Aron Breziner, Sophomores Greg Archer and Trystan Meniane, and Freshman Nicholas Monroe.

The tournament, which concluded on Monday, included nearly 200 players representing 33 schools from across the Southeast. The format included four singles flights and three doubles flights, as well as consolation play. All four Carolina players competed in the division II singles category. In addition, the team of Archer/Monroe played division I doubles, while Menaine/Breziner competed in division II doubles.

Aron Breziner who went 1-1 and advanced to the third round of the singles competition, led the Tar Heel's singles success. Breziner defeated Georgia State's John Monk 2-6, 6-5 (4), 6-5 (1) to reach the third round. Also going 1-1 in the singles main draw was Nicholas Monroe who defeated Alex Jundsten of Murray State to reach the second round of competition. After reaching the second round due to a bye, Archer and Menaine both were defeated in their second round matches. Archer fell 6-1, 6-1, to South Alabama's Zak Lamar and Meniane lost a close match to Furman's Michael Jacobson 6-4, 6-5.

The tandem of Archer/Monroe led the Tar Heels in doubles play by winning their first round match 8-7 (7) over Georgia Tech's Iams/Wright duo. In a competitive second round match Archer/Monroe fell 8-5 to South Alabama's team of Thall/Zinchanra. The team of Menaine/Breziner lost a tough first round match 8-2 against Florida State's Scarella/Laub team.

Consolation action saw success from Martinique, France native Trystan Menaine. Menaine went 2-1 in consolation play and reached Sunday's third round. Meniane registered victories over Furman's Michael Jacobson, 6-3, 6-2, and Samford's Raphail Bohli. Greg Archer also competed in consolation play and lost a tough three set match 6-1, 4-6, 6-5 (9), to UCF's Gabriel Strangberg.

The Tar Heels will compete again this coming week at the All-American Championships. The Championships will run from October 6-15 and will be hosted in Atlanta, GA.
