Doubles Team Falls In Second Round Of NCAA Tournament

STANFORD, CALIF. - North Carolina's highly successful 2005-06 men's tennis season came to an end Friday as No. 4 seeded Brad Pomeroy and Raian Luchici were upset in the second round of the NCAA Championships at Taube Tennis Stadium in Stanford, Calif. Pomeroy and Luchici fell to San Diego State's Markus Dickhardt and Benedikt Stronk 6-1, 6-4. As the No. 4 seed in the championships, Pomeroy and Luchici had already clinched All-America status from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. Luchici also achieved All-America status in singles this year. UNC tied the school record with 25 wins this season, finishing 25-5 and reaching the NCAA Round of 16 for the first time in 13 years. Carolina will now set its sights on the 2006-07 season when UNC will have to replace four senior starters--Raian Luchici, Brad Pomeroy, Derek Porter and Aly Mandour.
