Clemson Clips Men's Tennis 4-3 in ACC Quarterfinals

ORLANDO, Fla. - Clemson senior Darren Knight defeated Carolina freshman Nicholas Monroe 2-6, 7-6, 6-2 to clinch the Tigers 4-3 upset of the Tar Heels in the quarterfinal round of the ACC Men's Tennis Tournament. Friday's match was the fourth consecutive year Clemson and North Carolina have faced each other in the ACC Tournament, with each team winning twice. Clemson advances to Saturday's semifinals to meet the winner of the Georgia Tech/Virginia match. Carolina will likely earn an at-large bid to an NCAA Regional to be held May 13-14. Clemson won the doubles point with victories at the number one and two positions. After winning the doubles point in eight straight matches, Carolina has now lost the point in four of its last five matches. Sophomore Trystan Meniane won for the ninth time in his last 11 matches, defeating Marko Gojanovich 6-3, 6-3. Greg Archer and David Cheatwood also posted singles wins for the Tar Heels. Cheatwood, the ACC champion at #3 singles, won his third consecutive match playing at number two singles.
